GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech volleyball freshmen Mikaila Dowd and Mariana Brambilla were named to the all-ACC academic team as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning. Both freshmen also earned all-conference honors in November.
Dowd was tabbed to the all-ACC second team and all-freshman team. She earned ACC Freshman of the Week twice during the 2018 season. The biomedical engineering major turned in 12 double-doubles, including a 20 kill, 21 dig effort against Virginia on Nov. 4, earning her a spot in the 20-20 club. The native of Naperville, Ill. has the most kills in a single game of all active Yellow Jackets with 26 against North Carolina on Oct. 26. Dowd averaged 3.69 kills per set in conference play, ranking sixth in the ACC and second among freshmen.
Brambilla was named to the all-freshman team after earning ACC Freshman of the Week twice. The outside hitter averaged a double-double during her freshman campaign, recording 18 on the season. A biology major, Brambilla led the Jackets in kills, digs and points. She started all matches for Tech.
The duo led the Yellow Jackets back to the postseason for the first time since 2009, winning an opening round match over South Florida in the NIVC before falling to College of Charleston in the second round. The win was Tech’s first postseason victory since 2004.
