Former two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference linebacker Jack Tyler joined Georgia Tech football’s coaching staff as senior defensive analyst in 2026.
Tyler, who starred as a player at Virginia Tech, spent four seasons at East Texas A&M (2022-25) prior to coming to The Flats. He began his four-year stint at ETAMU with two seasons as linebackers coach (2022-23) before being promoted to defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and played an integral role in the Lions’ transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I FCS.
Prior to his four-year stint at East Texas A&M, Tyler spent six seasons on the staff at his alma mater, Virginia Tech (2016-21), working his way up to linebackers coach in his final season with the Hokies. He also served as a student assistant (2016), graduate assistant (2017-18) and defensive quality control coach (2019-20) during his six years on the VT staff, aiding in the development of a number of standout linebackers, including Rayshard Ashby, Dax Hollifield, Amare Barno and Tremaine Edmunds.
Tyler began his coaching journey as a defensive intern at James Madison in 2015.
As a player, Tyler began his collegiate career as a walk-on at Virginia Tech before becoming a four-year letterwinner from 2010-13 and team captain as a senior. He recorded 286 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks as a Hokie. He was a first-team all-ACC selection as a junior in 2012 and second-team honoree as a senior in 2013, racking up 100-plus tackles (119 in 2012, 100 in 2013), 10-plus TFLs (13 in 2012, 11 in 2013) and double-digit passes defended (13 in 2012, 12 in 2013) each season.
Tyler set an Oakton (Va.) H.S. school record with 147 tackles as a senior in 2008, en route to being named Virginia Player of the Year.
