Claudio Pinheiro joined the Georgia Tech volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2017. He was promoted to associate head coach in August 2021.
Pinheiro, a native of Rio de Janeiro, coached with the Brazil Women’s National Team since 2005 and served as the head coach for the U23 Brazil Women’s National Team from 2011-14. In addition to coaching at the top level in Brazil, he has also coached at the professional level in Turkey, Puerto Rico, and Spain.
With the Brazilian National Team, he claimed gold medals at the 2012 London and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Pinheiro aided the Georgia Tech volleyball staff during the 2016 season as a consultant. The Jackets saw their best season since 2004, recording the best overall (.750) and ACC (.750) winning percentages in 12 years. Since, the Yellow Jackets have advanced to three consecutive NCAA tournaments beginning in 2020-21 as Pinheiro guided Matti McKissock to become one of the best setters in program history, leading the White and Gold in career assists during the 25-point rally scoring era with 4,103 assists.
