Castro, Rudman, and Stegemann Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Atlanta Roberto Castro, Tarryn Rudman, and Ulrike Stegemann were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 3, 2005.

Castro, a junior from Alpharetta, Ga., ended his sophomore campaign by finishing third in last week’s Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational, Tech’s opening event of the fall season. He posted an eight-under-par score of 208 to come in three shots off the pace. Castro closed with rounds of 67 and 68 to earn his ninth career top-10 finish, and led sixth-ranked Tech to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Rudman, a junior from South Africa, won three singles matches at the ITA All-American Prequalifiers to receive a bid into the Qualifying draw at the ITA All-Americans, being held in California. Rudman posted wins against teams from Boston College, Pacific and Wake Forest en route to earning her bid. She also paired with Lyndsay Shosho to advance to the Round of 16 in doubles before losing 8-5 to a ranked team from UC Santa Barbara.

Stegemann, a sophomore from Germany, led the volleyball team to two ACC wins this weekend. Against Florida State, Stegemann posted a career-best 20 kills and hit .515 to help Tech to a 3-2 win. Two days later, Stegemann again matched her career high with 20 kills and hit .302 against Miami as the Jackets posted another 3-2 win. For the week, Stegemann averaged 4.00 kills per game and hit .395.
