Ayalon Named One of ACC's Top 50 Swimmers

Aug. 20, 2002

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior Shilo Ayalon, the only two-time All-American in program history, was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 50th Anniversary Men’s Swimming and Diving Team. The 51-member team was announced Tuesday as a part of the league’s golden anniversary celebration.

One of the world’s top distance freestylers, Ayalon earned All-America honors at the 2002 NCAA Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. He placed 11th in that event in 2001 to garner honorable mention All-America status.

On the conference level, Ayalon is a four-time All-ACC honoree. He was league runner-up in the 500 and 1650 free, as well as the 400 IM, in 2002.

Ayalon also enjoyed success on the international scene this summer, as he reached the final of the 1500-meter free at the European Championships. He also set national records for his native Israel in the 400, 800 and 1500 free. Ayalon was named MVP of the Israeli Summer Long Course Championships for his efforts.

He holds school records in four events.

Fiftieth Anniversary Teams will be selected in all of the conference’s sports and a top 50 overall men’s and women’s list will be chosen by a Blue Ribbon Committee of media, coaches, administrators and veteran observers of the Conference.
