Anderson Leads Tech Men's Tennis Past Virginia Tech, 5-2

MIAMI, Fla. – With both a singles and doubles victory from senior Roger Anderson, the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team won its sixth-straight dual match with a 5-2 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday in Miami, Fla.

Anderson teamed with junior Scott Schnugg to get the Yellow Jackets (8-2) going in doubles play against the Hokies (8-4). The duo was victorious at No. 1 doubles over Andreas Laulund and Stephane Rod by an 8-3 score. Tech clinched the doubles point when the team of Jason Pieters and Joao Menano downed Saber Kadiri and Reynolds at No. 2 by an 8-5 count.

In singles play, Anderson continued his solid play, picking up a win at No. 1 singles over Virginia Tech’s Francis Huot. Anderson won a tight first set by a 7-5 score before cruising to a 6-3 second-set victory. Schnugg followed Anderson at No. 2 singles, as he needed three sets to defeat Kadiri. After dropping the first set, Schnugg rallied to win the next two in strong fashion by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.

Junior Joao Menano was the next singles winner for the Jackets, as he defeated Rod at No. 4 in three sets. Menano won the first set by a 6-4 count, before dropping the second by a 6-1 margin. He then rallied to win the third by a 6-3 score. Senior Fabio Campos was the final singles victor for Tech, winning his match at No. 6 against Michael Kurz. Campson won the first set by and then lost the second in a tiebreaker before winning a tiebreaker of his own in the third frame.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to face ACC foe Virginia in a match that will get under way at noon.
