THE FLATS – Wes Durham, the voice of Georgia Tech athletics since 1995, has been named the Georgia Sportscaster of the Year for the eighth time in his career by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association & Hall of Fame (NSSA).
Durham is the Yellow Jackets’ play-by-play voice for football and men’s basketball on the Georgia Tech/IMG Sports Network, beginning his service to Tech in 1995. In that time, he’s called all 228 football games, and has been on the mic for the Yellow Jackets’ appearances in the 2004 Final Four and the 2002 College World Series.
In addition to his work on the Flats, Durham has handled radio play-by-play duties for the Atlanta Falcons since 2004.
Durham, whose father Woody was the legendary and long-time “Voice of the Tar Heels” for the University of North Carolina for 40 years, is paired with former Georgia Tech and NFL quarterback Rick Strom on Tech football broadcasts and Atlanta TV sports reporter Randy Waters on basketball.
A native of Cary, N.C., Durham graduated from Elon University in 1988 with a degree in mass communication. He now resides in Atlanta with his wife Vicky and children Emily and Will.
