ATLANTA (Sept. 26) – Georgia Tech’s Jaime Wong, Charlotte Pernet and Tamarra Jenkin all won in their respective flighted singles finals, and the Yellow Jacket tandems of of Mason Miller and Sabrina Pardo and Mysti Morris and Wong won their respective doubles flights Sunday on the final day of the Georgia Tech/Holiday Inn Midtown North Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
“It was a solid weekend for us,” said Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “Everyone had some good matches, and everyone learned some lessons ont he court. This is something we can build on for the rest of the year.”
Wong, a freshman, defeated Monika Schmid of Alabama Birmingham, 6-2, 6-0, to capture the flight “A” singles title, then teamed with Morris to win the flight “B” doubles title with an 8-3 win over teammates Laura Ozolins and Pernet.
Pernet topped her doubles partner Ozolins to win the flight “B” singles draw, 6-1, 6-4. Jenkin defeated Mable Abraham of Georgia State, 6-3, 6-4, to claim the flight “C:” singles title.
In the “A” flight doubles final, Tech’s Miller and Pardo, ranked 19th nationally, downed Jenkin and partner Bobbi Guthrie, 9-7. Pardo also won in the flight “A” consolation final with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win over Georgia Southern’s Isabella Kling. Guthrie won her final match in the “A” flight winner’s consolations with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Georgia State’s Nina Jansen.
The Yellow Jackets return to action in two weeks at the Tennessee Fall Classic.
