Scott McDonald joined Georgia Tech as a player development coach in August 1997 after three years in a similar capacity at Florida State where he worked with the football program from 1994-97.
His current title is director of Olympic sports player development.
McDonald currently oversees the strength and conditioning programs for the Georgia Tech volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis programs.
He previously oversaw the strength programs for men’s basketball for 14 seasons, track & field for 13 seasons, golf for two seasons, women’s basketball and assisted football for four seasons on The Flats.
McDonald has been responsible for the development and implementation of strength training regimes for many student-athletes that have gone on to the NFL, NBA, WNBA, PGA, WTA, and has competed in the Olympics.
He was recognized as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) in 2013. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Certified Club Coach by USA Weightlifting.
McDonald is a 1993 graduate from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in sports fitness management.
