Shoshanna Engel Lewis assumed the role of associate VP for athletics governance and inclusion in fall 2020. In her role, she facilitates all athletics governance, ethics and compliance, legal, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Engel Lewis joined the Georgia Tech compliance office in September 2013 after serving as assistant provost for student-athlete compliance at Tulane since July 2011. In addition to serving as Georgia Tech’s associate and senior associate athletics director for compliance, she was the Institute’s first deputy Title IX coordinator for athletics from 2015 to 2020.
Additionally, she serves as the third vice president and board member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and represents Georgia Tech on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Committee for Social Justice and Racial Equity (known as CORE). She was also a member of the NCAA Interpretations Committee from 2015-2019.
At Tulane, Engel Lewis supervised all aspects of the compliance program for 16 varsity sports and provided comprehensive rules education to over 300 student-athletes and more than 110 affiliated staff members.
Prior to her post at Tulane, Engel Lewis served nearly four years as the assistant director of athletics for compliance at Yale University. With the Bulldogs, Engel worked with 35 varsity sports and over 800 student-athletes.
Engel Lewis was also a member of the compliance staffs at both North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina before returning to Yale, her alma mater.
A graduate of Yale University, Engel Lewis was a standout Academic All-American gymnast for the Bulldogs. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science in May 2003 and went on to earn a master’s degree in sport administration from the University of North Carolina in May 2007.
