Leah Thomas is Georgia Tech’s associate athletics director for performance nutrition.
A member of the Georgia Tech athletics staff since 2003, she came to The Flats as director of nutrition in 2003 and became the director of Total Person support services and sports dietitian in 2008. She was promoted to assistant A.D. for student-athlete development in 2018 and was elevated to associate A.D. for performance nutrition in July 2022.
As a sports nutritionist, she conducts nutrition counseling and develops meal plans for optimal health and performance for Georgia Tech student-athletes. Additionally, she supplies and maintains the supply of extra supplements and snacks that the student-athletes rely on daily.
Thomas supervised Georgia Tech’s Total Person program for over 15 years. Tech’s renowned TPP program provides student-athletes with enrichment sessions, community service projects, sports vision services, counseling services, physiology testing and sports nutrition. She also serves as the advisor to the Student-Athletic Advisory Board.
In addition to her work at Georgia Tech, Leah has authored a chapter in the fourth edition of Sports Nutrition: A Guide for the Professional Working with Active People . She also enjoys writing a monthly nutrition column for “Wingfoot”, an Atlanta Track Club publication.
A 1999 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, she was a top cross country and track competitor for the Mocs. Thomas earned her master’s degree in exercise science from Georgia State in 2003. A registered dietitian, she became a board-certified specialist in Sports Dietetics by the American Dietetic Association in 2006.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native is a member of the Atlanta Track Club and was a 2004 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier and competitor. She and her husband Dwight have three children: Mazie Ruth, Bowen and Marney.
