Angelo Galante, M.D., head team physician for Georgia Tech football since 1997, was named Tech’s first-ever associate athletics director for sports medicine/chief medical officer in 2018.
In his role, Dr. Galante oversees all of Georgia Tech athletics’ medical services for student-athletes. He has provided medical care for Georgia Tech student-athletes as team physician, as well as all GT students as a staff physician at the Institute’s Stamps Health Services center, since his arrival at Tech in ‘97.
Prior to coming to Atlanta, Galante served as team physician for the Canisius College ice hockey program (1994-97), the Buffalo Blizzard (professional indoor soccer – 1994-97) and the Buffalo Stampede (professional roller hockey -1994-95), while also practicing as a family and primary care orthopedic/sports medicine provider in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y.
Galante was a soccer student-athlete at Heidelberg (Ohio) College, where he graduated with honors in 1985. He went on to attend medical school at Albany (N.Y.) Medical College and served a family practice residency at the University at Buffalo (1990-93) and a sports medicine fellowship at the Hughston Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus, Ga. (1993-94).
Galante and his wife, Danielle (also from Buffalo), have three children: Faustino, Francesco and Giuliana.
