Anthony Egbuniwe - Football - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Egbuniwe is pronounced E-boon-a-way… a returning starter at defensive end who may get a look this fall at outside linebacker in Tech[apos]s new 3-4 scheme… has emerged as a vocal leader on the team… the former Tulsa transfer played mostly on special teams in 2008 and entered the 2009 season as a top back-up at defensive end… took over starting duties in Game 4 after Robert Hall went down with an injury… a hard-working player who plays with emotion… always has a smile on his face — off the field… graduated from Georgia Tech in the spring.

2009 (Junior)
Moved into the starting lineup in mid-September at defensive end opposite All-American teammate Derrick Morgan… overcame nagging injuries to have a solid campaign… played in 12 games and started nine times… recorded 19 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup… missed the Florida State and Virginia Tech games with an illness… enjoyed the best game of his career at Mississippi State (Oct. 3) when he recorded four solo tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up… made his first career start against North Carolina (Sept. 26) in place of injured Robert Hall and responded with two tackles and a half-sack… recorded three tackles and a tackle for loss against Clemson (Sept. 10).

2008 (Sophomore)
Overcame nagging early-season injuries to be a back-up at defensive end and a member of special teams…made a solo tackle against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec. 31)… saw considerable second-half action vs. No. 23 Miami (Nov. 20)… saw brief action at North Carolina (Nov. 8)… saw brief action in the season opener vs. Jacksonville State (Aug. 28) and recorded one assisted tackle.

2007 (Freshman)
Sat out the season under NCAA transfer rules… was eligible to practice with the team.

2006 (Tulsa)
Spent the 2006 season at Tulsa University, where he played as a true freshman… played in 10 of 13 games… saw action against Stephen F. Austin, BYU, North Texas,Memphis, UTEP, Houston, Rice, SMU, Tulane and Utah… transferred following spring drills 2007.

High School
A three-year letterwinner at J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C…. started as a junior and senior at defensive end… totaled 191 tackles, 24 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his career… earned all-region and all-county honors as a senior… was credited with 89 tackles and 13 sacks as a senior… totaled 54 stops and six sacks as a junior… lettered three years in basketball… high school coach was Mickey Cracker.
