Men's Swimming and Diving Ties Best Finish in ACC Championship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 26) – Georgia Tech’s men’s swimming and diving team tied for its best finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship meet as it placed sixth Saturday with 289 points. Tech had five top-8 finishes with four more school records and two NCAA-B standards on the day.

Freshman Shilo Ayalon placed fifth in the 1,650 freestyle in a school record time of 15:21.11, which earned him an NCAA-B standard time. Freshman Tomonori Tsuji placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:00.74, which was also a school record and NCAA-B standard time. Freshman Scott Lenyk placed fifth in the 200 backstroke in 1:48.74, which also set a new school record.

Sophomore David Laitala placed eighth in the 200 butterfly in 1:50.32, which freshman Josh Hersko was 13th in the 100 freestyle in a school record mark of 45.58 seconds. The 400 freestyle relay team of Laitala, Ayalon, Hersko and Jorge Oliver placed seventh in 3:05.26 as the Jackets pulled away from Maryland by 15 points for sixth place, which is the highest during the three-year tenure of head coach Seth Baron.

Tech ended with 12 new school records over the three-day event and will now await to see if any of the NCAA-B times will qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.
