Auburn, AL – Three members of the Georgia Tech swim team earned provisional qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Georgia. Four Tech swimmers competed in the James E. Martin Invitational at Auburn, Alabama on Saturday.
Junior James Salazar eclipsed his own school record with a time of 1:45.53 in the finals of the 200 meter backstroke. Salazar placed second and received a provisional NCAA qualifying mark.
Senior David Laitala clocked a time of 48.15 in the 100 meter butterfly, placing third to receive a provisional qualifying mark. Junior Tomonori Tsuji placed fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 48.15. Tsuji also earned a provisional qualifying mark.
Also competing for Tech was senior Leo Salinas who finished third in the 500 meter freestyle (4:34.67).
The 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for March 28-30 at the University of Georgia. Junior All-American Shilo Ayalon owns an automatic qualifying mark in the 1650 free.
