Former longtime Georgia Tech staffer Liam Klein rejoined the Yellow Jackets in 2025 as director of recruiting.
Klein returned to The Flats after 11 years at nearby Kennesaw State, where he was instrumental in the construction of the Owls’ football program.
Klein served as KSU’s defensive line coach for his first nine seasons at the school, before coaching inside linebackers in his final season (2024). During his time leading the Owls’ defensive front, KSU ranked in the top 20 in NCAA Division I FCS eight times in its first nine seasons of existence (2015-21, 2023), including top-five finishes in 2018 and 2019. The Owls also led the Big South Conference in total defense for five-consecutive seasons.
As Kennesaw State’s recruiting coordinator, Klein oversaw KSU’s efforts to land five-straight top-20 classes in FCS (2017-21). In 2024, he assembled the highest-rated class in program history, as the Owls completed their transition to the FBS ranks.
Klein was instrumental in both the recruitment and development of defensive linemen Travis Bell and Auzoyah Alufohai, the first two NFL draft picks and active NFL players in Kennesaw State history.
As a team, Kennesaw State, which held its inaugural season in 2015, won three conference championships (2017, 2018, 2021) and made four FCS playoff appearances (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) during Klein’s time with the program. The Owls’ success at the FCS level led to KSU making the jump to the FBS level in 2023. Klein coached under current Georgia Tech senior offensive assistant Brian Bohannon at KSU.
Prior to going to KSU, Klein spent 10 seasons at Georgia Tech under head coaches Chan Gailey and Paul Johnson. He spent six months in football operations at Tech (2003) before transitioning to a defensive graduate assistant (2004-06), then director of player personnel (2007-12). In his 10 seasons at Tech, the Yellow Jackets made 10 bowl appearances and won four ACC Coastal Division championships.
Before his arrival in Atlanta, Klein served as outside linebackers/safeties coach at Harvard (2002) and defensive line coach at Lafayette (2001).
Klain was a three-year starter as an offensive lineman at Monmouth (1997-2000), where earned a bachelor’s degree in education and interdisciplinary in history and political science in 2001.
A native of Norwood, N.J., Klein has a wife, Katie, and two sons, Luke and James.
