As a Senior (2014): Appeared 24 times, usually as a pinch runner … Earned one start in left field vs. North Carolina (April 12) … Stole two bases in two attempts, scoring four runs on the season … Recorded her first career hit against ETSU (Feb. 15).
As a Junior (2013): Played in 31 games mainly as a pinch runner with two starts in left field … registered 11 runs … went 5-for-6 in stolen bases.
As a Sophomore (2012): Appeared in 35 games as a pinch runner … Scored 13 runs … Stole eight bases on 13 attempts.
As a Freshman (2011): Appeared in two games as a pinch runner against Virginia Tech (April 9) and Tennessee (May 21) in the NCAA Regional in Knoxville.
High School: Four-year letterwinner at Berwick High School where she helped lead team to four district championships as a shortstop … Three-time All-District pick … Senior year accolades included Berwick High School Athlete of the Year, All-State, Louisiana High School Athletic Association All-Star team, Louisiana Sports Writer[apos]s Association All-State Infielder and Offensive MVP Award… Participated in the LSCA All-Star Game … Led team in batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases her junior and senior seasons … Berwick High School Student of the Year as a senior and was also class valedictorian, senior class president and Louisiana Youth Seminar Secretary and Treasurer … Also lettered for four seasons in volleyball and track.
Personal: Born Kaitlin Ann Kates on July 9, 1992, in Houston, Texas … Parents are Bruce and Carla Kates … Chose Georgia Tech because of the engineering program, softball program and benefits in the future … Lists hobbies as water sports (wake boarding and hydro sliding), hunting and spending time with family and friends … Graduate in December 2014 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
