2023 Amateur Highlights:  Won the Silver Medal as low amateur at The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool at Hoylake, England … Opened with a 5-under-par 66 to share the first-round lead before finishing in a tie for 74th (295, +11) … Won The Amateur Championship at Hillside Golf Club in Southport, England, scoring a 3&2 victory over Rohan Kleu of Switzerland in the 36-hole final … Tied for 62nd in the 36-hole stroke-play qualifier and needed 19 holes to win his preliminary round match before plowing through to the final … Competed with the International team at the Arnold Palmer Cup at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa., but lost three of his four matches as the Internationals fell to Team USA, 30-26 … Tied for seventh place at the World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi (277, -11)

2022-23: Tournament Results

First-team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America and Golfweek magazine … Also named a GCAA All-America Scholar for the second time … Top-10-ranked player who was one of the 10 finalists for the Fred Haskins Award and was one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award … Made the All-ACC team for the second straight year … Played in every tournament and was Tech’s top finisher in six of them … Won one event and finished runner-up three times … Recorded top-10 finishes in all six stroke-play events this spring prior to the NCAA Championship (T-40) and in eight of 11 for 2022-23 … Tied for third place at the NCAA Salem Regional (202, -14), including a career-low 62 in the middle round, and tied a tie for ninth place at the ACC Championship (212, -4) … Won both of his individual matches at the conference championship, defeating William Love od Duke (2&1) and Michael Brennan of Wake Forest (6&5) … Posted a runner-up finish at The Goodwin (203, -7), a tie for second at the Linger Longer Invitational (208, -8), a tie for ninth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (209, -7) and a tie for second at the Watersound Invitational (203, -13) … Earned his first collegiate victory at the Inverness Intercollegiate (206, -7) in the fall, and also tied for 10th place at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (211, -5) … Compiled a team-low and 69.44 stroke average over 34 rounds, one-hundredth of a stroke shy of Bryce Molder’s 2000-01 Tech record … Finished the spring No. 7 in Golfstat and No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index … Had a 30-29-3 head-to-head record against the nation’s top 25 players, according to Golfstat

 

 

2022 Amateur Highlights: Earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur based on his World Amateur Golf Ranking … Tied for sixth place in the 36-hole stroke-play portion (139, 1-), and won his opening match against Garrett Wood, 1-up … Tied for ninth place at the European Amateur Championship in Valencia, Spain (287, -1) … Went 3-1 in his matches to help the International team defeat Team USA, 33-27, in the Arnold Palmer Cup in Switzerland; won both of his mixed foursomes matches with Heather Lin of Taiwan and defeated 15th-ranked Travis Vick of Texas, 3&2, in his singles match … Tied for 36th (283, -3) and helped South Africa tie for 19th place at the World Amateur Team Championships in Paris

2021 Amateur Highlights: Tied for 4th place (214, -2) at The Spirit International in Trinity, Texas, where he was the captain for the South African team, which finished fifth in the men’s team competition and eighth in the combined team (men and women) competition … Tied for eighth place at the Patriot All-America in December in Litchfield, Ariz. (201, -9) … Tied for 16th at the Monroe Invitational (279, -1) … Finished 17th at the Dogwood Invitational (277, -11).

2020-21: Tournament Results

Tech’s highest-ranked player, No. 78 in the Golfstat rankings and No. 64 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, made the GCAA All-East Region team … Tops the team in stroke average at 71.57 in 28 rounds, and recorded four top-10 finishes, including a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional (209, -7) … Tied for top team finish at the NCAA Championship (T44) with two rounds of par or better … Also tied for third at the Calusa Cup, tied for sixth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and fifth at the Linger Longer Invitational … Tied for 15th at the ACC Championship (211, +1) … No. 138 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, No. 125 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking, and South Africa’s No. 2-ranked amateur … Enrolled at Tech for the fall but had to take all classes virtually from South Africa because COVID prevented his departure to come to Atlanta … Arrived in January too late to participate in team qualifying and missed the Jackets’ first tournament (Camp Creek Invitational), but played in every event after.

2020 Amateur Highlights: Member of the South African national team … One of five amateurs exempted from qualifying for the South African Open Championship (Dec. 3-6), will be his fourth appearance in the championship (was youngest player in the field when he made his debut in 2018).

High School:  Attended Outeniqua High School, where he competed five years in golf for coach Val Holland, and four years in tennis under coach Albert Warren, playing in the top position … His tennis team won the SWP district championship every year from 2015-19.

Junior/Amateur Golf:  Ranked as high as No. 131 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking … Became the youngest player ever to win the South African Amateur in 2017 … Competed for South Africa in the Junior Presidents Cup in 2017 and 2019 … In 2019, he was the runner-up at the Southern Cape Amateur Open and tied for 19th at the South Africa Stroke Play Championship … Won the South African Match Play Championship in 2017 and reached the round of 16 in 2018 … Also in 2018, tied for eighth at the St. Andrews Links Trophy, became the first-ever international champion of the East of Ireland Amateur, and tied for 11th place at the Junior Players Championship in Jacksonville, Fla.
