#ProJackets Football Report: Week 1

THE FLATS β€” The 102nd season of the National Football League is almost upon us and several former Yellow Jackets are prepared to kick off the 2021 slate in this week’s #ProJackets Football Report.

Hitting the professional football world by storm in the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game was 7th-round 2021 NFL Draft pick Pressley Harvin III, who punted a series of picture-perfect punts to earn his way onto the regular-season roster for Pittsburgh. Harvin enters the NFL after earning the Ray Guy Award, recognizing the nation’s top collegiate punter.

After a career year in 2020, tight end Darren Waller will kick off another year in Las Vegas on Monday Night Football, facing off against Baltimore. Waller moved up to No. 35 on the NFL’s top 100 list after hauling in an impressive 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns. Waller has now rattled off back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons for the Raiders.

Returning for the Jaguars will be Nathan Cottrell and Adam Gotsis. Cottrell made his name on special teams for Jacksonville during his rookie season, compiling 123 return yards and five tackles as their gunner – a role he inhabited at Georgia Tech. During the preseason, Cottrell also hauled in his first pro touchdown. Gotsis returns for his seventh season in the league and second with the Jags. The Melbourne, Australia native turned in a fine season last year, recording 37 tackles in 16 games.

Another Jaguar last season, Tyler Davis, will don a different uniform in 2021 after signing as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts. Also switching teams this year is Jeremiah Attaochu, who signed with the Chicago Bears after a two-year stint with Denver. With the Broncos, Attaochu recorded 31 tackles (24 solo, six tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and one forced fumble last season. Also returning for his 7th season in the NFL is offensive lineman Shaq Mason with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker, who made 25 field goals last season, including a 58-yarder, and recorded 72 touchbacks.

Legend of The Flats and NFL great Calvin Johnson was also enshrined in Canton this offseason, hearing his name selected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
