Muguruza-Smith Fall in Fall Invitational Doubles Final

ATLANTA –

Juniors Miguel Muguruza and Ryan Smith lost to Clemson’s Carlos Alvarez and Gera Boryachinskiy in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-1) Monday morning in the Division A doubles final of the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

Tech also picked up a pair of consolation wins in singles Monday. Junior Doug Kenny won a Division B match, 7-5, 6-4, over Chris Cooprider of UNC-Wilmington, improving his record in the tournament to 3-1, while freshman Magin Ortiga defeated Ryan Ybarra of UNC-Wilmington, 6-4, 6-4. Another Tech freshman, Juan Spir, dropped a three-set decision to Max Stevens of Tennessee, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).

Kenny and senior Austin Roebuck teamed up to take a consolation doubles match from Kosta Blank and Kinshuk Sharms of UNC-W, 8-3.

In other championship matches Monday morning Rhyne Williams of Tennessee defeated teammate Matteo Fago, 6-1, 6-4, in Division A singles, while and Illia Ziamtsov of UNC-Wilmington bested teammate Alex Wetherell, 6-2, 6-1, in Division B singles. In Division B doubles, Max Ando Hirsch of UNC-W defeated Jose Carlos Tolentinno and Dan Regan of Armstrong Atlantic, 8-6.
