THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (15-9, 4-1 ACC) dropped game two to NC State (15-10, 3-4 ACC) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Mewborn Field to tie the series at a game each.
Head coach Aileen Morales says:
“We didn’t have many quality at bats today or situational awareness at the plate. It’s disappointing to see us waste so many opportunities in RBI situations. Tomorrow we will have to come out here with more fight and intensity as we look to take the series.”
How it happened:
The Wolfpack scored first. With freshman Naomi Dickerson getting the start in the circle for the Jackets, a leadoff single in the top of the second landed NC State on base, and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second. An error by the Jackets with two outs on the board scored the unearned run from second to give NC State the 1-0 lead.
The Jackets tied the score in the bottom of the third. Senior Kelsey Chisholm drew a walk to lead off the inning, landing at third on a double from freshman Cameron Stanford. Junior Katie Krzus hit a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Chisholm from third to tie the score at 1-1.
Tech took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. With the score at 1-1, sophomore Rebecca Prairie hit a lead-off single through the right side, advancing to second on a single to the pitcher off the bat of freshman Breanna Roper. Sophomore Crosby Huckabay flew out to right field but advanced Prairie to third on the play. Chisholm sent a single up the middle to score Prairie, giving Tech the 2-1 edge.
Tech held onto its 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth. Dickerson gave up back-to-back singles and Tech brought senior Emily Anderson into the circle for the Jackets. With the two inherited runners on base, Anderson gave up a home run to left field, putting NC State up 4-2.
The Jackets were unable to overcome the deficit and fell to the Wolfpack, 4-2. Dickerson was landed with the loss.
