THE FLATSLuke Schniederjans becomes the third Georgia Tech pro to advance to stage 2 of Korn Ferry Tour qualifying school … Stewart Cink, Paul Haley II and Vincent Whaley play the weekend at Sanderson Farms … Will Dickson, Andy Ogletree and Chris Petefish competing this week on GPro Tour … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

SCHNIEDERJANS ADVANCES IN KORN FERRY Q-SCHOOL

Luke Schniederjans, who competed on PGA Tour Canada this summer, became the third Georgia Tech pro to advance to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-school by tying for 10th place at the stage 1 qualifier last week in Chardon, Ohio. The 2020 Tech grad posted a 7-under-par 281 score at Sand Ridge Golf Club to join the 25 players who advanced.

He joins J.T. Griffin and Tyler Strafaci, who each advanced to the second stage in separate events two weeks ago after playing on the Canadian circuit this summer.

Q-school consists of three stages. Players advancing past the 72-hole first stage, which was conducted at 12 sites around the country in September, compete in another 72-hole competition at one of five sites in October, with the first three sites being conducted Oct. 11-14, and the other two Oct. 18-21.

The survivors come together Nov. 4-7 in Savannah, Ga., for the final stage of qualifying.

THREE JACKETS MAKE CUT AT SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP

Three Yellow Jackets – veterans Stewart Cink and Vincent Whaley, as well as Korn Ferry Tour graduate Paul Haley II, made the cut and played on the weekend at last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss.

Cink was the highest finisher with a tie for 45th (282, -6), while Haley tied for 54th (283, -5) and Whaley tied for 61st (284, -4). Anders Albertson, Chesson Hadley and Richy Werenski all missed the cut.

Haley has made the cut in both of the first two events on the 2022-23 schedule, having tied for 12th two weeks earlier at the Fortinet Championship.

The Tour goes back West this week for the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, where Matt Kuchar returns to action along with Cink, Hadley, Haley, Werenski and Whaley are all in the field.

THREE JACKETS IN GPRO EVENT

Will Dickson, Andy Ogletree and Chris Petefish are all competing in the fifth event of the 2022-23 GPro Tour season this week at the Colonial Classic in Thomasville, N.C.

Dickson continues to compete on the circuit on which he has won twice after failing to advance out of the first stage of Korn Ferry Tour qualifying school two weeks ago. Ogletree awaits his next Asian Tour event at the beginning of November.

CINKS TACKLE GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Stewart Cink hasn’t been to Alaska – yet. But after hiking in Glacier National Park, he can’t imagine any terrain in the continental United States that could surpass Glacier’s stunning beauty.

“It’s rugged. It’s spectacular. It’s steep,” Cink says. “And the trail system throughout that national park is like unbelievable. It takes you to the best places.

“If you’re willing to get out there and go a long way, then you can get to probably the best scenic trail access and scenery in maybe in the world.”

Montana’s Glacier National Park offers 1,600 square miles of mountains created by prehistoric ice rivers, as well as forests and meadows to explore. There are about two dozen glaciers, estimated to be 7,000 years old, along with 200 lakes, abundant waterfalls and countless pristine streams.

Conservationist and author George Bird Grinnell, who first visited Glacier in 1885, was so taken by the beauty of the area, he gave Glacier the nickname “Crown of the Continent.” It became a national park in 1910 and has now hosted more than 100 million visitors.

One of those was Cink’s wife, Lisa, who was immediately drawn to the area. She brought her husband, and he fell in love with it, too.
