THE FLATS – David Duval makes solid debut on Champions Tour … Vincent Whaley only Jacket to make the cut at The American Express … Paul Haley II posts runner-up finish in first Korn Ferry Tour stop of 2022 … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.
*****
DUVAL MAKES SOLID DEBUTON CHAMPIONS TOUR
Four-time All-American and 2001 Open champion David Duval made a solid debut on the PGA Tour Champions last weekend, tying for 34th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship with an even-par score of 216 at the Hualalei Golf Club in Kona, Hawai’i. Larry Mize tied for 39th place in his first action of 2022.
“I expect to succeed,” he told Golfweek magazine ahead of his first foray into the tour.
The Jacksonville native and Episcopal graduate, who won 13 times on the PGA Tour and for most of the 1999 season supplanted Tiger Woods at No. 1 in the world, turned 50 years old Nov. 9.
While he hasn’t made a cut on the PGA Tour since the 2015 British Open at St. Andrews, Duval pointed out that he certainly has enough tread left on the tires.
“I haven’t played 50 golf tournaments in the last decade and so I’m patient and giving myself time to get my feet under myself again,” he said in a video posted on the PGA Tour Champions Twitter site. “My wife Susie and I are so excited about the opportunity and so looking forward to it.”
Duval won all of his Tour events between 1997 and 2001, including the 1999 Players, the 1997 Tour Championship and the 2001 British Open. He won four times in 1998 and captured the Tour’s scoring and money titles.
He became the first player to shoot 59 in the final round of a tournament to win, in 1999 at the now-American Express.

WHALEY LONE JACKET TO MAKE AMEX CUT
Vincent Whaley was the only one of five Yellow Jackets to make the cut at last weekend’s American Express event, which began the Western swing of the PGA Tour schedule. He tied for 40th place at 10-under-par 278 and slipped to 50th in FedEx Cup points, while Chesson Hadley, Seth Reeves, Cameron Tringale and Richy Werenski all missed the cut.
The same five Jackets are in the field for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open at famed Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.

HALEY, SCHNIEDERJANS KICK OFF KORN FERRY TOUR SEASON IN THE BAHAMAS
Paul Haley II and Ollie Schniederjans are competing in their second Bahamas event on the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour this week with the Great Abaco Classic. Haley turned in a runner-up finish in the opening event last week at the Great Exuma Classic, posting a 12-under-par 276 to finish second by two strokes. Schniederjans missed the cut.
Anders Albertson is making his 2022 debut this week in the Abaco Classic.
