THE FLATS – Stewart Cink gets the 2022 calendar started in exotic fashion as part of the winners-only field at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui … Cameron Tringale, Paul Haley II among players to watch in 2022 … Matt Kuchar’s new armlock method was among the more interesting developments in golf in 2021 … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

CINK GETS 2022 STARTED IN EXOTIC FASHION
One of the benefits of Stewart Cink winning twice last year is the opportunity to play in this week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions on the island of Maui in Hawai’i. The 39-player field includes only those players who won during the past year.
Cink’s renaissance 2020-21 season of reached its crescendo with an impressive four-shot victory at the RBC Heritage in April. Cink held the outright lead after 36, 54 and 72 holes, becoming the oldest player (age 47) to do that on TOUR since Peter Jacobsen at the 2003 Travelers Championship.

KUCHAR’S ARMLOCK PUTTING RATES HIGH
Golf.com rated Matt Kuchar’s new armlock putting method one of the seven biggest things they saw n players’ bags in the 2020-21 season.
Kuchar used to employ an armlock putting method where he ran the elongated putter grip up his left arm. His former Bettinardi putters had 7-8 degrees of loft on them. Recently, though, Kuchar switched into an armlock method where he runs the putter grip up his right arm. Now, he’s using a Bettinardi prototype putter that has 0 degrees of loft.
What does that mean exactly? Listen to a behind-the-scenes explanation here.

TRINGALE, HALEY AMONG PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2022
Since he turned pro in 2009, Cameron Tringale has earned $15,742,717, as well as the dubious distinction as the Tour’s top earner without a victory. So far this season Tringale has finished T-2 at the Zozo Championship and T-7 at the Houston Open, so the game is in form. He’s just got to keep it together for four rounds.
Paul Haley hasn’t made a TOUR start since that 2013 season, but if the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour wraparound season is any indication, he’ll be heading back to the TOUR soon. The 33-year-old was certainly close in 2020-21 with his best year since 2012, finishing 27th on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Points Standings with two runners-up and four additional top-10s in 37 starts. He only finished 26 points shy of Austin Smotherman for the last TOUR card and appears primed for a big 2022 after finding his game again the last three years.
