FEDEX CUP PLAYOFF SPOTS ON THE LINE FOR FOUR JACKETS
Richy Werenski returns to defend his first PGA Tour title this weekend at the Barracuda Championship as he and three other Yellow Jackets are in the field looking to secure spots in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Werenski holed a flop shot from the fairway on the par-4 16th for a five-point eagle and birdied the last in the final round for a one-point victory over Troy Merritt. He won for the first time on the PGA TOUR, scoring 13 points in the final round on Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood Course. The 29-year-old former Georgia Tech player won the event three years after losing to Chris Stroud on the second hole of a playoff.
Werenski ready to defend title in the Barracuda Championship, this time in front of fans
Werenski, who sits at No. 114 on the FedEx Cup points list, and Matt Kuchar, at No. 120, looking for a pair of good performances this week and next at the Wyndham Championship to secure their places in the playoffs. Also in the field are Chesson Hadley (No. 128) and Vincent Whaley (No. 141), who need a pair of high finishes to make the playoffs. The top 125 in points at the end of the regular season not only qualify for the playoffs but maintain full status on the PGA Tour for 2021-22.
The Barracuda Championship is the PGA Tour’s only event conducted under the Modified Stableford scoring format.
Two Jackets are solidly in the playoffs. Stewart Cink, a two-time winner this season, is No. 17 and is in position to advance all the way to the Tour Championship on his home course at East Lake Golf Club. He is in the field for this week’s World Golf Championships event, the FedEx Cup St. Jude Invitational, in Memphis, Tenn.
Cameron Tringale, at No. 39, is taking this week off.

THREE JACKETS VYING FOR TOP 25 FINISHES ON KORN FERRY TOUR
Two weeks also remain in the Korn Ferry Tour regular season, after which the top 25 in the tour’s points standings will be awarded PGA Tour cards.
Seth Reeves is in good position at No. 20 to get a second chance at the PGA Tour when he tees it up at the Utah Championship this week. Reeves has recorded five top-20 finishes in his last six starts and is a cumulative 82-under-par over that stretch.
Also competing are Paul Haley II (No. 26), who is coming off a tie for sixth at the Price Cutter Charity Championship needs a pair of high-level performances to make a return to the PGA Tour. Anders Albertson (No. 70) and J.T. Griffin (No. 81) are aiming to finish among the top 75 in order to make the Korn Ferry Tour playoffs and maintain status for 2022. Nicholas Thompson (No. 141) also is in the field, while Ollie Schniederjans, who sits at No. 34, is not.

FORME TOUR
Chris Petefish tied for 28th place in last week’s event, the Birck Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Ind., with a 6-under-par score of 282. Luke Schniederjans missed the cut for the first time following three high finishes.
After four events, Schniederjans is No. 8 on the Forme Tour Order of Merit, while Petefish is No. 36. Four events remain on the schedule, beginning next week in Sellersburg, Ind., with the Fuzzy Zeller Classic. The top five points earners earning 2021-22 Korn Ferry Tour membership along with others advancing to the second and final stages of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament.

When I was in college Annika was at the peak of her powers. I was good (All-American) but not great. One of our dinner conversation hypotheticals was how she would fare in men’s college golf? I always posited she was as good as me at the time, if not better. I’m still curious.
