THE FLATS – Cameron Tringale leads 3M Open after 54 holes, finishes 16th … Paul Haley II, Nicholas Thompson and Seth Reeves all among top 11 at Korn Ferry Tour event … Luke Schniederjans pushing for top-5 finish on the Forme Tour … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

TRINGALE HOLDS 54-HOLE LEAD AT 3M OPEN
For the second time in his career, Cameron Tringale sat atop the leaderboard after 54 holes of a PGA Tour event after posting rounds of 67-68-66 to lead by one heading into the final round. Also for the second time in his career, Tringale failed to hold that lead after carding a 74 to tumble all the way to a tie for 16th place.
Tringale lost his lead early on Sunday after making a bogey at the second hole, but held his round together with pars and battled back to within a stroke of the lead after back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12 (see videos below). But a triple-bogey at 13 thwarted the comeback. It kept alive a streak of 306 career starts on the PGA Tour without a victory, and his career earnings of more than $14 million are the most of any player in PGA Tour history who has not won.
Still, he held his position at No. 39 on the FedEx Cup points list, his highest standing since 2015, and Stewart Cink, who missed the cut, remained at No. 17 as the PGA Tour takes a break for the Olympics before staging its final two regular-season events.
Not so fortunate after missing the cut were Matt Kuchar, who sits at No. 120, and Richy Werenski (No. 114), who both remain inside the top 125 but need to play well in the final two weeks to make the FedEx Cup playoffs. Chesson Hadley, who tied for 58th at the 3M Open, fell from 123 to 128, and Vincent Whaley, who did not play the weekend, fell from No. 138 to 141.
After the Olympic break, the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational and the Barracuda Championship will be played the same weekend (Aug. 5-8) followed by the Wyndham Championship to close regular season on Aug, 12-15.

THREE JACKETS FINISH AMONG TOP 11 IN KORN FERRY TOUR EVENT
There scores might’ve been good enough to win most weeks on the Korn Ferry Tour, but at last weekend’s Price Cutter Charity Championship, they wound up only among the top 11 and far from the lead.
Paul Haley II and Nicholas Thompson tied for sixth place with 20-under-par scored of 268. Haley closed with a 64, while Thompson shot 65 twice. That was seven shots off the winning score at the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Mo. Seth Reeves tied for 11th place at 269 (-19).
The finish for Thompson was the veteran pro’s second top-10 finish this year and highest since his tie for sixth at the 2019 Evans Scholars Invitational
As the Korn Ferry Tour comes down to its final two events, Haley and Reeves have some work left to finish among the top 25 in points to secure their 2021-22 PGA Tour cards. Despite the high finish, Haley dropped one spot to No. 26, while Reeves held position at No. 20.
Anders Albertson and J.T. Griffin, who both missed the cut last weekend, are battling to finish among the top 75, which gets them in the Korn Ferry Tour playoffs and ensures keeping their full tour membership. Albertson sits at No. 70, Griffin at No. 81. Ollie Schniederjans, who took the week off, is at No. 34 with an outside chance to make the top 25.
Two events remain in the regular season following a break this week for the Olympics – the Utah Championship Aug. 5-8 and the Pinnacle Bank Championship Aug. 12-15.
Want to be a pro golfer? Seth Reeves edition.

FORME TOUR
Following a high finish last week at the Korn Ferry Tour event in Illinois, Luke Schniederjans added another solid finish on his regular tour last weekend tying for 18th place at the Bolingbrook Golf Club Invitational in Bolingbrook, Ill. His 11-under-par score of 277 included 68-66 in the middle two rounds.
His former Tech teammate Chris Petefish tied for 33rd in the same event with an 8-under-par 280 that included a second-round 67.
After three events, Schniederjans is No. 6 on the Forme Tour Order of Merit, while Petefish is No. 37. Schniederjans actually leads the tour in birdies made with 67. Five events remain on the schedule, beginning this week at the Birck Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Ind. The top five points earners earning 2021-22 Korn Ferry Tour membership along with others advancing to the second and final stages of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament.

KUCHAR FONDLY REMEMBERS 2016 OLYMPICS
Nowhere else on the planet [last weekend] could you find a men’s golf Olympic medalist teeing it up in competition.
The four golfers who represented the United States as the men’s golf team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro — Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson — all competed at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minn. Kuchar was tops of the bunch, taking home the bronze medal after a scorching 8-under 63 on the final day.
“What an incredible experience,” said Kuchar, who made a hole-out eagle on the second hole in Friday’s second round but missed the cut by a stroke. “I look back and still beam with pride just thinking about it.”
More from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune
A week from today, three new medallists will take the podium at #Tokyo2020 @JustinRose99, @henrikstenson and Matt Kuchar reflect on what their 2016 #Olympics #Golf medals mean to them.https://t.co/RFtvgMfvHu

KUCHAR ALTERS PUTTING METHOD FOR 3M OPEN
Matt Kuchar switched from a left to right armlock putting method at this week’s 3M Open on the PGA Tour. Kuchar, 43, has adopted an armlock putting method up his left arm for a number of years on the PGA Tour, but judging by a series of snaps from GolfWRX today, it would appear he has now switched to wedging the putting up his right arm instead.
