WERENSKI, CINK POST SOLID FINISHES AT PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
If not for one round that got away, which was a common experience last weekend on the Ocean Course, Stewart Cink and Richy Werenski may have both competed for the title at the second major championship of 2021. Cink, who had a second-round 76 but still made the cut, tied for 30th place after closing with a 69, while Werenski stood in the top 15 after 54 holes but shot 75 on Sunday to tie for 38th place.
The performances helped both players in their FedEx Cup playoff aspirations, Cink moving ahead one position to No. 6, while Werenski moved up four spots to No. 89. Matt Kuchar and Cameron Tringale, who both missed the cut at the PGA Championship, weren’t hurt significantly. Kuchar dropped two spots to No. 89, while Tringale went from No. 38 to 39.
Kuchar, Tringale and Werenski continue on this weekend as the PGA Tour returns to Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth along with Werenski and Vincent Whaley, who get another start in his home state of Texas.

Cameron Tringale was in the hunt at the PGA (-3 thru 22 holes) until he had that unfathomable triple-par-quintuple-quad-bogey run to finish his first nine on Friday … somehow comes in at -2 on his final nine holes with no bogeys. That’s gritttyyyy.

REEVES, THOMPSON MAKE CUT ON KORN FERRY TOUR
Seth Reeves posted a solid finish and Nicholas Thompson advanced to the weekend for the first time in a while at the AdventHealth Championship, last weekend in Kansas City, Miss.
Reeves tied for 43rd and held his position at No. 19 in Korn Ferry points, while Thompson finished 67th after making his first cut since last October.
The Tour moves to Illinois this week where Anders Albertson and J.T. Griffin return to action after a week off, joining Schniederjans and Thompson, for the Evan Scholars Invitational in Glenview. Haley, who is No. 20 in Korn Ferry points, and Reeves are taking the week off.

KUCHAR EARNS U.S. OPEN EXEMPTION THROUGH OWGR RANKING
Matt Kuchar earned an exemption into the 121st U.S. Open through his lace among the top 60 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, the United States Golf Association announced Monday. Kuchar is among 24 players who were granted exemptions as top-60 players, one of the criteria for earning a spot in the national championship.
Kuchar, ranked No. 51 as of Monday, joins Stewart Cink, who is ranked No. 45 and has won twice this season on the PGA Tour, and newly-minted pro Tyler Strafaci in the field for the U.S. Open, set for June 17-20 at Torrey Pines Golf Club in LaJolla, Calif. Kuchar will play in the championship for the 19th time, including the last 13 years. Cink will play for the 21st time. Strafaci is in the field by winning the 2020 U.S. Amateur championship.
