THE FLATS – For the third time in as many years, Georgia Tech men’s tennis senior Christopher Eubanks will participate in the BB&T Atlanta Open - this year with a main draw wildcard.
The Atlanta native will go up against fellow American contender Taylor Fritz on Tuesday, July 25 with a tentative start time of 6 p.m.
The much-anticipated matchup between the two will be a part of the “BB&T Atlanta Open College Night,” which features “Buy One Get One” tickets bought on-site on July 25 when presenting a valid college ID (e.g. Georgia Tech’s Buzzcard).
Joining the festivities will be Georgia Tech head men’s basketball coach Josh Pastner – who will conduct the coin toss to determine first serve of Eubanks’ match – as well as Buzz, the Ramblin’ Reck and cheerleaders.
Eubanks is coming off a successful year with the Yellow Jackets, capping the campaign by being named ACC Player of the Year for the second-straight season. Finishing the season with a 31-6 overall record and 18-2 mark in dual match action, Eubanks recorded 18 wins over ranked opponents, including then-No. 2 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest.
The two-time all-American received a wildcard entry into the Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open in Newport, R.I., eventually falling to the top-seeded qualifier in India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan.
Fritz turned pro in 2015 and currently is ranked 125 in ATP singles at 19 years old. Out of California, Fritz has a career record of 21-31 and a 5-8 record this year. His previous outing was in the Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open as well, where he fell 6-3, 6-3 to Tobias Kamke of Germany.
