ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – Glen Rice Jr. had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to a 71-61 win over UTEP in the semifinals of the Legends Classic at Boardwalk Hall.
Brian Oliver had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Georgia Tech (4-1) and Iman Shumpert scored 13 points.
Defensively, Tech held UTEP’s leading scorer, Randy Culpepper to a team-high 13 points.
The Yellow Jackets trailed 37-31 at the half, but scored the first 11 points after intermission to take the lead, holding the Miners scoreless for more than 11 minutes.
After UTEP recovered and took a 54-51 lead with just under 8 minutes left, the Jackets reeled off 10 straight points and held the Miners scoreless for more than 4 1/2 minutes, recapturing the lead for good.
Tech salted away the game at the free throw line after that, making 13 of 16 shots from the stripe in the second half.
Rice and fellow sophomore Brian Oliver recorded the first double-doubles of their careers.
