CLEMSON, SC – The Georgia Tech track team sent several participants to Saturday’s Orange and Purple Classic at Clemson University and came away with numerous top ten finishes.
For the Yellow Jacket women, senior Eboni Crosby and sophomore Amanda Gilley placed first and second respectively in the 1500 meters. Crosby finished with a time of 4:51.36 while Gilley finished in 5:14.27. In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Courtney Thomas and classmate Alberta Watkins also placed 1-2. Thomas finished with a time of 1:03.95 and Watkins recorded a time of 1:07.13.
In the women’s field events, senior Dana Hall placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43’06.00″. In the hammer throw senior Angela Levens finished third with a mark of 160’07.00″.
In the men’s field events, Zeb Sion continued his strong freshman season with a first place finish in the shot put (55’11.00″). Classmate Jonathan Spillman placed third in that event with a mark of 53’00.75″. Sophomore Michael Massey finished second in the high jump with a season-best leap of 6’11.00″ In the long jump, junior Brian Fraser (23’04.50″) and classmate Chris Crawley (23’00.75″) finished third and fourth respectively. Crawley also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 46’03.25″. Freshman Ian Brewer received second place in the discus throw with a toss of 154’10.00″. Brewer also placed second in the hammer throw (186’10.00″).
In the men’s running events, junior Bryan Swarn finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 47.05. Freshman Brian Ford (48.40) finished eighth in that event. Freshman Neil McDonough placed second in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:57.85.
The Yellow Jackets return home for the Georgia Tech Invitational beginning Thursday May 16th.
