Yellow Jackets Begin Play at Wilson/ITA Regional Championship Thursday

Oct. 19, 2006

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Four members of the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will begin play at the Wilson/ITA Mideast Men’s Regional Championships Thursday. Tech’s Jordan DeLass, David North, Scott Blackmon and George Gvelesiani will compete in singles and doubles in the four-day tournament at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

The 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships is the second of three national championship events for college tennis this season. The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships feature a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: qualifiers from these Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country, the ITA National Small College champions, top performers from the ITA All-American Championships and at-large card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee.

Tech’s David North and Jordan Delass both competed in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. earlier this month. North had Tech’s strongest showing at the tournament, advancing through the pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds and into the main draw, with six consecutive victories, all of those victories coming in straight sets. Delass was defeated in the first round of the main draw.
