TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team claimed two flight titles while wrapping up play on Sunday at the Florida State Invitational being played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the Florida State campus in Tallahassee, Fla.
Freshman Jasmine Minor battled her way to a spot in the flight championship match with a tough 7-6(1), 7-5 win over Troy’s Olfa Dhaoui on Saturday morning and downed Vanderbilt’s Nelly Radeva, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday to claim the Gold bracket crown.
Tech’s doubles team of senior Lynn Blau and junior Elizabeth Kilborn defeated the Commodores’ Chelsea Preeg and Marie Casares 8-3 to win the Garnet bracket flight title on Saturday morning.
Sophomore Muriel Wacker battled back from losing her first match on Friday to finish in fifth place in the Gold bracket. She defeated Troy’s Candela Munoz, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday morning and USF’s Alessandra Bonte, 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday.
Blau fell to Troy’s Karoline Grymel, 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 on Saturday but rallied with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) over Vanderbilt’s Chelsea Preeg, ranked 66th, on Sunday to claim seventh place in the Garnet bracket.
Kilborn defeated Florida State’s Leyla Erkan, 6-0, 6-4, on Saturday to advance to the Garnet bracket flight championship match, but she fell to the Commodores’ Casares.
