Yellow Jacket Duo Makes it to the Finals of the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational

Atlanta – Georgia Tech duo, Scott Blackmon and Luke Rassow-Kantor advanced to the doubles finals Sunday when they defeated Mississippi State’s Christopher Doerr and Pete Necajevs, 8-5, at the 2006 Georgia Tech Fall Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The pair fell to Ricardo Gonzalez and James Hunt of Georgia, 8-6.

Luke Rassow-Kantor also advanced to the semifinals Saturday when he defeated Alabama’s Saketh Mynemi in a 3-set battle, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Shortly after downing his quarterfinal opponent, Rassow-Kantor faced Ike Belk of Clemson and lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

It was Nebraska who had the strongest showing over the weekend, with players winning finals in both singles brackets, as well as consolation finals wins in doubles and singles. Adrian Szatmary won the flight A singles final, defeating Ike Belk, 6-0, 6-0. Nebraska’s Hendrik Stahmer downed Ryan Farlow of Mississippi State 6-3, 6-2 in his finals victory while fellow Husker, James Clow defeated Mississippi State’s Pete Necajevs, 6-4, 6-3, in the flight A singles consolation final.

Sixty-four players from fourteen teams, from universities around the country competed in the 2006 Georgia Tech Fall Invitational in five rounds of singles and doubles play, with two draws for both. The tournament also held consolation rounds for those defeated in the first round.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Columbia, S.C. for the USC Fall Invitational October 13-15.
