The 36th-ranked Florida International University women’s tennis team edged No. 35 Georgia Tech, 4-3, March 5 in Miami.
Senior Bobbi Guthrie defeated Alexandra Guzman, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and sophomore Jaime Wong beat Mariana Faustinelli, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. But FIU won the other four singles matches to claim the victory.
In doubles play, Wong and sophomore Mysti Morris defeated Anneliese Rose and Faustinelli, 9-7, at the No. 1 position and Guthrie teamed with Debbie Reynolds to beat Mari Toro and Nazly Elsawaf, 8-6, at No. 3 as the Yellow Jackets won the doubles point.
Georgia Tech fell to 3-4 on the season and plays at Miami on Tuesday. FIU improved to 10-1.
