THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball climbed one spot in the latest Associated Press poll released on Monday, moving to No. 17.
In its lone game this week, the Yellow Jackets (9-2, 1-0 ACC) took a convincing 62-45 win over Wake Forest to open Atlantic Coast Conference play on Sunday. Three finished in double-figures paced by Nerea Hermosa and Eylia Love, each contributing 16 points, while Lorela Cubaj continued to dominate on the glass, securing a game-high 12 rebounds. With her rebounding total, Cubaj became the program’s all-time leading rebounder, surpassing Bonnie Tate’s previous mark of 1,039 set from 1977-79.
Georgia Tech ranks first in the ACC and the nation in scoring defense, and also holds the top spot in field goal percentage defense. Individually, Cubaj leads the ACC and ranks fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 12.5. She is also second in the country in defensive rebounds per game (9.8 rpg).
