Wieters Named ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Matt Wieters was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in four games against Duke and Georgia Southern last week.

Wieters went 13-for-17 (.765) with a home run and nine RBI to lead Georgia Tech to a perfect 4-0 record. The freshman switch hitter had a slugging percentage of 1.059 and posted an .800 on base percentage. He had two doubles, walked three times and added two sacrifice bunts.

After a 1-for-3 performance in a midweek 9-1 win over Georgia Southern, the Goose Creek, S.C., native went 12-for-14 in Tech’s three game sweep at Duke. In the series finale on Sunday, he went a perfect 5-for-5 with a grand slam and six RBI. Additionally, Wieters earned the win on Tuesday against Georgia Southern by working 3.2 innings of shutout relief.
