Whitney Humphreys And Whitney Haller Sweep ACC Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior Whitney Humphreys earned her second straight Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week award while junior teammate Whitney Haller was selected Player of the Week the league office announced this afternoon. The duo led Tech to a 4-1 week with a pair of wins apiece against Georgia Southern and Boston College.

Humphreys went 4-1 with a 1.40 ERA on the week as she beat Georgia Southern and Boston College two times apiece. The Shady Spring, W. Va., native allowed just five earned runs on 22 hits and seven walks in 25 innings. She had 26 strikeouts and held opponents to a .237 average. Humphreys won both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Georgia Southern as she tossed a six-hit shutout in game one and then picked up a win in the night cap pitching 5.2 innings of relief and giving up just one earned run.

Humphreys won a pair of games as well against Boston College over the weekend while allowing just one earned run in 9.1 innings of work. In the last 10 games, Humphreys has gone 7-0 with a 1.86 ERA as the Yellow Jackets have gotten within three games of the .500 mark for the first time since February. They were 10-21 at one point three weeks ago.

Haller, meanwhile, has been white hot at the plate of late as she hit a team-high .667 (10-15) last week The Marietta, Ga., native had three doubles, a home run and eight RBI as well as three walks in a 4-1 week for Tech. Haller compiled a 1.067 slugging percentage and .722 on-base percentage while her home run against Georgia Southern last Wednesday was the 46th of her career tying Tara Knudsen’s school record. She is now just three away from tying the ACC record as well.

Winners in eight of its last 10 games, Georgia Tech (25-28, 6-11 ACC) closes out the regular season with five games this week at Glenn Field. The Yellow Jackets will host Georgia State Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. and then Maryland heads to town for a three-game ACC series this weekend.
