THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving concluded its two-day Intrasquad Scrimmage. Athletes were split up onto two teams, white and gold. On Friday, white finished with a significant lead over the gold team and went on to secure the win on day two of competition. At the end of the meet, white earned a winning score of 400.5 points and gold had tallied a total of 256.5 points.
The white team swept multiple events, including the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 200 breast and 1000 free. Gold won both the men’s and women’s 200 free.
Both teams were led by athletes who achieved new meet records in multiple events. On Friday, Mert Kilavuz won the men’s 500 free with a record-breaking time of 4:31.39 and Daniel Kertesz came in first in the men’s 100 breast with a meet record of 55.91. Berke Saka broke the meet record for the men’s 100 back (48.97) in his leg of the 400 medley relay. Deniz Ertan won the women’s 200 fly with a record-breaking time of 2:00.94.
On Saturday, Kilavuz finished first with another record in the men’s 1000 free (9:33.02) and Batur Ünlü set a new meet record in the men’s 200 free (1:37.85). Two of the women’s meet records were also broken on day two of competition. Ertan championed the 1000 free with a time of 9:52.06 and Zora Ripkova broke the meet record in the 100 fly with a first-place time of 55.66.
In the one-meter dive, Ruben Lechuga represented the gold team and took home first place for the men with a score of 163.65. Anna Bradescu earned a win for the white team in the women’s event, recording a score of 118.65.
