Volleyball Returns Home For Matches Against Virginia Tech And Virginia

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team returns home this weekend for matches against Virginia Tech and Virginia at O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets play the Hokies on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a match versus the Cavaliers on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Parents’ Night
The parents’ of the Georgia Tech volleyball players will be recognized between the second and third sets in the Virginia Tech match on Friday night.

Georgia Tech (11-4, 3-2 ACC)
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a disappointing weekend in North Carolina with back-to-back losses for the first time this season against NC State, 3-2, and the first sweep of the season at UNC, 3-0.

Tech is looking to get back into its winning ways this weekend, defending its perfect 7-0 record at O’Keefe against Virginia Tech and Virginia.

The Jackets’ serving game has been a key tool in the Tech’s success this season. Georgia Tech is currently ranked No. 2 in the country with 2.06 aces per set and junior setter Kaleigh Colson is No. 5 nationally, averaging 0.57 aces per game.

Virginia Tech (11-4, 4-1)
The Hokies are on a three-game winning stint with victories over Miami, Maryland and Boston College.  VT is ranked nationally in hitting percentage (No. 15, .282), while setter Jordan Fish leads the conference and is No. 25 in the country with 11.33 assists per set.

Fish has many setting options when it comes to who she sets as Virginia Tech has a balanced attack with five players that have at least 100 kills and four of those five hitting above .200. Cara Baarendse and Kathryn Caine are ranked No. 11 and 12, respectively, in the nation with a .419 hitting percentage. Victoria Hamsher is also in the ranks at No. 37, hitting .385.

The Cavaliers will be looking to bag that elusive first ACC victory this season and to break its four-game losing skid. Before heading to O’Keefe the Cavaliers will meet the Clemson Tigers in South Carolina.

As a team, Virginia is hitting .163 compared to its opponents’ .229. Tori Janowski is sixth in the ACC with .35 service aces per set and Emily Rottman is seventh in the league with a 4.04 digs per set average.
