CHAPEL HILL, NC (Oct. 23) – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (13-10, 3-7) fell to #25 North Carolina (19-4, 9-1) on Saturday night in four games, 15-4, 9-15, 12-15, 9-15.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game one behind the hitting of Maja Pachale who had four kills, while the defense held North Carolina to .000 hitting percentage. Tech would proceed to capture game one 15-4.
In game two, the Jackets again jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Carolina would fight back and win game two, 15-9 behind Casey Simpson who had five kills and five digs.
Once again, Tech held a 5-0 advantage in game three, but the Jackets would see that dissolve quickly as Carolijna collected six straight points and began to frustrate Tech in their sideout offense.
In game four, the Tar Heels gained a 14-4 advantage before the Yellow Jackets would mount a charge which fell short, 15-9.
Georgia Tech was led by Teryl Townsend who had 22 kills on the night and 10 digs, and Maja Pachale who had 21 kills and 16 digs. Courtney Adler tallied a season-high 55 assists while Ky Bell had 12 kills and 16 digs.
North Carolina was led by Casey Simpson who had 16 kills and 13 digs. The Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta to face the Maryland Terrapins on Friday night in O’Keefe Gymnasium at 7:30.
