Volleyball Defeats Fluminense

May 10, 2016

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – The Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated Fluminense, 2-1, Tuesday evening at the Fluminense Football Club.

“I’m pleased with the match,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We played a team that was more challenging than the first three teams we faced on Saturday. It was good to see that we were able to compete.

“We were able to get everyone in and get everyone some reps and contributing. It’s good because the competition is going to get better and better, and it’ll be a good progression as we finish the trip.”

The Jackets dropped the first set 25-20, but took a 10-3 lead in the second set to run away with the game 25-11. Set three was a back and forth battle, with the Jackets ultimately prevailing 25-22.

Annika Van Gunst led Georgia Tech with 11 kills, while Teegan Van Gunst added seven and Sydney Wilson pitched in four. On defense, Teegan Van Gunst and London Ackermann each had eight digs, while Teegan Van Gunst and Lauren Pitz put down three blocks.
