THE FLATS – Senior Aaron Unterberger, junior Julienne McKee and sophomore Broderick Snoddy will compete at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday at the Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
The entire event will be streamed live on ESPN3. Coverage begins Friday at 5:25 p.m. CT and Saturday at 5:50 p.m. CT.
Unterberger, a native of Snellville, Ga., will compete in the pole vault Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT, after qualifying for the event with a school-record height of 5.44m (17’10.25″) at the Last Chance Invite in Blacksburg, Va., a week after setting that school record en route to a third-place finish at the ACC Championship.
McKee triple jumped her way to the NCAA Championships with her season-best distance of 12.94m (42’5.5″) at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener Jan. 12. The Marietta Ga. native, qualified for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championship in the same event. McKee competes in the triple jump at Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.
Sophomore Broderick Snoddy, who originally missed qualifying for the championship meet by one one-hundredth of a second, has the chance to compete after the declaration period ended Monday. Athletes who qualify for multiple events can declare to compete in one or all events, and as athletes drop out of races, spots open up for the next best times.
The Carrolton, Ga. native, runs the 60-meter semifinal Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT. The finals of the event are set for 7:10 p.m. CT Saturday.
The last time Georgia Tech had at least three student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships came in 2008 when five Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the championships – Alphonso Jordan (triple jump), James Lemon II (long and triple jumps), Steve Marcelle (shot put), Fatmatah Fofanah (60 high hurdles) and Shantia Moss (60 high hurdles).
