Tringale Maintains Lead at Hilo Golf

Feb. 8, 2007

ATLANTA – Cameron Tringale shot his second straight 64 Thursday to pace Georgia Tech, while the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets posted a 15-under-par team score of 265 and moved into a tie for second place after 36 holes of the UH-Hilo Invitational golf tournament in Waikoloa, Hawaii.

Tringale, a sophomore from Laguna Niguel, Calif., bidding to win this event for the second straight year, matched his career low round from Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 128 (12-under-par). He is one stroke ahead of Oregon’s Derek Sipe and two in front of Oklahoma State’s Jonathan Moore, who each carded 8-under-par 62s on Thursday.

Tech, meanwhile, is tied with No. 2-ranked Stanford at 23-under-par 537, four shots behind No. 3 Oklahoma State, which blistered the Waikoloa Village Golf Club with a 20-under-par round of 260. The defending national champion Cowboys have a two-round total of 533 (27-under-par).

Arizona State is two strokes behind Tech at 21-under-par 539, and Oregon is in fifth place at 18-under 542.

Tech got major contributions Thursday from Roberto Castro, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., who followed his 67 Wednesday with a 65 Thursday and is tied for fourth place at 8-under-par 132. Freshman Chesson Hadley of Raleigh, N.C., added a 4-under 66 for the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore Adam Cohan of Wayne, Pa., came in at even-par 70.

The final round is scheduled for Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. local time.
