Track Team Closes Out FSU Relays with Several Victories

TALLAHASSEE, FL. – The Georgia Tech track team continued their outdoor success at day four of the FSU Relays in Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets closed out their trip to Tallahassee by picking up six first place finishes and fifteen finishes in the top three.

For the women, senior Nicole Campbell won the women’s 800 meter gold championship with a new personal best time of 2:07.22 while teammate senior Sara Pardue placed second with a time of 2:08.04. In the 1500 meter gold championship, sophomore Renee Metivier finished first with a new personal best time of 4:28.35 and junior Katie Griffin finished second with a time of 4:32.95.

The Yellow Jacket women’s 4 x 100 meter relay team placed second with a time of 46.02. In the long jump, senior Mishanta Reyes placed second with a jump of 19-03.25 feet. Junior Jessica DeFreitas came in fourth with a personal best jump of 18′ 10.0″. Freshman Shanta Smith (41′ 02.25″) finished first in the triple jump gold championship.

For the Yellow Jacket men, junior Bryan Swarn placed first in the 400 meter gold championship with a time of 46.42. Junior Brendon Mahoney finished third in the 800 meter gold championship with a time of 1:51.55.

In the men’s relays, Georgia Tech’s 4 x 800 meter relay team won the gold championship with a time of 7:40.47 while the 4 x 1500 meter team also won its championship with a time of 16:15.65. The 4 x 400 meter team finished second with a time of 3:08.57.

The Yellow Jackets travel to Gainesville, Florida next weekend (March 29-30) for the Florida Relays and will compete at home on April 6th in the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
