THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams concluded its weekend of competition at Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge and Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invite with several top three and personal-best performances.
TIGER PAW INVITE
One of Tech’s top performances came from Joey Sandel and his second-place finish (8:31.35, PR) in the men’s 3,000 meters (unseeded). In the same event, Jean-Lou Pare finished fifth with a personal-best time of 8:43.90. In the women’s 3,000 meters (seeded), Emma Geaney took home 10th place (10:05.12, PR).
Omar Arnaout majorly improved on his personal best in the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.06 meters (6-9). Jamir Gibson also recorded a new personal best mark in the men’s shot put (18.78m/61-7.50) and finished fifth in the event.
Both Shanty Papakosta and Matthew Mazzacano earned fifth-place finishes in their respective events. Papakosta jumped a height of 1.79 meters (5-10.5) in the women’s high jump and Mazzacano recorded a mark of 4.82 meters (15-9.75) in the men’s pole vault (unseeded).
MUSIC CITY CHALLENGE
In the women’s 3,000 meters, Helena Lindsay placed fifth with a new personal-best time of 9:18.66. In the unseeded event, Mary Brady took home second place with a time of 9:44.02 and Abbey Green came in behind Brady with a third-place time of 9:48.36.
On the men’s side, James Cragin finished ninth in the seeded event with a time of 8:07.58. In the unseeded event, Jackson Borden came in 24th place with a personal-best time of 8:25.80.
Jeremiah LaDuca placed fifth in the men’s 800m (unseeded) with a time of 1:50.81.
