BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech track & field teams competed in their final meet before next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, as the several Yellow Jackets took part in the VT Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va.
The top performers on the afternoon for Tech were senior Alphonso Jordan for the men and Jhanelle McLeod for the women, who both hit NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks in their respective events.
Jordan posted a mark of 24′ 7¼” in the finals of the long jump to make the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark in the event and finish second overall. McLeod had a 41′ 8″ leap in the triple jump, which was also good enough for a second place finish and hit an NCAA Provisional Mark.
In other action on the day, Jenae Anderson finished eighth in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.54 and seventh in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 24.51. Tiffany Grant just missed hitting a Provisional mark in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.81 to finish third overall, while McLeod finished third in the long jump with a mark of 19′ 7¾”.
The only other male to compete in the meet was Antonio McKay Jr., who took part in the 400-meter dash and just missed making a NCAA Provisional Mark with a time of 47.69 to finish third overall.
Several Yellow Jackets now gear up for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Action gets underway at the University of Arkansas on Friday, March 12th.
