THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team continues its outdoor season Friday and Saturday at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Action begins Friday at 2 p.m. CT with the men’s hammer throw and continues Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. CT with the women’s hammer throw.
Joining Tech at the meet is host Alabama, Iowa, South Florida, Southern Miss, Tulane, and nationally-ranked Georgia and Indiana.
The Yellow Jackets are ranked nationally in seven individual events. On the men’s side, Broderick Snoddy is tied for No. 35 in the 100 meters (10.32) and Shawn Roberts is No. 12 in the 800 meters (1:48.08).
The relay team of Perron Jones, Snoddy, Michael Simms and Jonathan Gardner is No. 49 in the 4×100-meter relays (41.09).
In the men’s field events, Nikita Kirillov (5.45m; 17’10.25”) and Aaron Unterberger (5.27m; 17’3.50”) are No. 11 and 29, respectively, in the pole vault. Jonathan Gardner is No. 19 in the triple jump (15.79m; 51’9.75).
On the women’s side, Julienne McKee is No. 15 in the long jump 6.32m (20’9) and No. 9 in the triple jump (13.13m; 43’1). Teammate Jhanelle McLeod is also ranked in the triple jump at No. 10 in the triple (13.09m; 42’11.5).
In the team’s most recent action, the Yellow Jackets earned five first place finishes to kick off the outdoor season last weekend at the Georgia Relays. Julienne McKee was named the ACC Co-Performer of the week after she won the long jump (6.32m) to set a new school record.
