CLEMSON, S.C. – Steve Marcelle and Alana Clooten set personal-records to lead the men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Tiger Classic in Clemson, S.C., the host site of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championship.
Clooten, a sophomore from Fairbanks, Alaska, had a mark of 60 feet, 9 1/2 inches to finish second in the women’s weight throw. Marcelle, a sophomore from Green Bay, Wis., finished second in the men’s shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 59 feet, 3 inches.
Junior Andy Powlen finished third in the men’s shot put with a throw of 55 feet, 9 inches. Sophomore Charles Rohling placed first in the men’s weight throw with a personal-best mark of 54 feet, 10 inches.
Senior Brandon Duckett had a season-best time of 22.31 in the men’s 200-meter dash for a third-place finish. Sophomore Mario Johnson finished fifth in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 50.05.
Junior Raenard Dillard placed fourth in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25.54.
Senior Mary Chind placed eighth in the women’s mile with a time of 5:12.69. Sophomore Veronica Kinard ran the women’s 5,000-meter and crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 19:26.17. Junior Nazar Trilisky finished third in the men’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.11.
Freshman Billy Mateker placed seventh in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.09. Sophomore Dave Ford crossed the line eighth in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.30.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay team had a time of 3:25.95 to place sixth at the meet.
The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams will return to action in two weeks at the ACC Championships, hosted by Clemson University, Feb. 22-24.
