Three Jackets Tabbed Academic All-District

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Kylie Bilchev, Monika Dedaj and Kate Sharabura have each been selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday. The trio of Yellow Jackets earn the recognition for their performances on the court and in the classroom.

To be named Academic All-District, a student-athlete has maintained a career GPA of 3.5 or higher as well as on-court status as a starter or important reserve. In receiving the honor, the Yellow Jackets are the first since 2009 to earn the accomplishment. The honors mark the first for all three Yellow Jackets in their careers.

Bilchev has led Georgia Tech from the No. 2 singles position all season, producing a 20-4 dual record from that spot. Overall, the sophomore boasts a 27-8 singles record this season and has climbed as high as No. 23 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national singles rankings. She is currently ranked No. 31 in the country. Bilchev earned an individual bid to the NCAA Singles Championships by virtue of her ranking and performance on the court this season. She has partnered with Alejandra Cruz in doubles action to produce a 19-12 overall record. Bilchev has excelled in the classroom as a biology major.

Dedaj has been a steady component to Tech’s doubles lineup this season. The senior business administration major has partnered with Kate Sharabura the majority of the spring season to lead the Jackets at the No. 2 position. The pair collected victories over three conference opponents this season.

Sharabura rounds out Tech’s representation on the Academic All-District team and has been a mainstay in Tech’s doubles and singles lineup. The biology major partnered with Dedaj in doubles and led the Yellow Jackets from the No. 6 singles position. Sharabura gave Tech its final lead in a 4-3 victory over Miami in regular season action, battling back in a three-set victory.

The 2023 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America teams will be announced later in May.
