Three All-American Honors Earned on Final Day of NCAAs

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving concluded their 2022 season with the final day of the Men’s NCAA Championships. On Saturday, Tech earned three All-American honors, three new program times and earned 34 points en route to a tie for the second-best finish in program history.

In what would ultimately be their final swim as a Yellow Jacket, fifth-year seniors Christian Ferraro and Caio Pumputis earned All-American honors in the 200 fly and 200 breast, respectively.

For Ferraro, this is the seventh All-American honor of his storied career. Pumputis has 11 All-American honors to his credit including all three events he swam in this year, the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast.

Ferraro and Pumputis, finished fifth in the 200 fly and 200 breast, respectively, to earn first team All-American honors.

The final All-American honor came from Mert Kilavuz, a freshman, who in his first year took All-American honors in the 1650 free.

The trio of All-Americans also set new program records with their times. The first record to fall was by Ferraro in the 200 fly prelims when he improved his record by dropping 0.23 seconds. He improved it 0.01 seconds more in finals to set the program record at 1:40.09.

Kilavuz competed in the fourth heat of the 1650 free. Kilavuz clocked in at 14:40.99, dropping 1.63 seconds from his program record in the event.

The final program record to fall on the day came from Pumputis in the 200 breast when he touched the wall at 1:50.61, shaving 0.18 seconds off of his program record.

Over the entirety of the Men’s NCAA, five All-American honors were earned and five program records were rewritten.
